My Thoughts

As I painted this face from a blank canvas, it started as a painting of a woman, but that did not resonate with me or capture my feelings, so it slowly emerged as a non-binary person with an authentic expression from their soul. I have met many people who are non-binary or queer, and I celebrate the fluidity of their identities. I accented the painting with vintage Sherman Earrings from a Canadian jewelry designer. A statement of inner softness and beauty.

They wake slowly, not in a rush toward the day but into it — the way a tide returns to shore, deliberate and unashamed. Morning light pools across their cheekbones, catching the subtle shimmer of the Sherman earrings they chose before sleep, because beauty, to them, is not an afterthought but a companion.

The earrings are vintage — tiny sculptures of intention. They don’t wear them for glamour or nostalgia alone, but because they remind them of lineage without borders. Someone once crafted these pieces with care, and now they carry that care forward, letting it sway gently beside their jawline as they breathe.

They move through the world with a presence that is neither loud nor hidden. People often say they have a way of making a room feel like it’s exhaling. They listen deeply. They speak slowly. They hold space the way some hold prayer.

Their gender is not a question to be solved but a horizon — shifting, open, honest. They live in the in‑between with a kind of grace that makes others reconsider the rigidity of their own edges. When someone asks, “What are you?” they smile softly and answer, “Here.”
